The California Achievement Test (CAT) is one of the most widely used of the student assessments for basic academic skills. The CAT provides educators, students and their parents with a measure of achievement and national comparison in reading, language, spelling, and mathematics.

Practice Test: We understand that parents may have some reservations prior to the first time their students take an online test. As an option, we offer an additional practice CAT in order to acclimate students to the online testing process. This test is approximate 25% the length of the actual test, and provides only a count of the correctly answered questions. If this option fits your need, please select it above.
Recommendation Service: Academic Excellence's independent recommendation service is for home educators who would like to receive customized curriculum recommendations based upon the achievement test results. Academic Excellence is not affiliated with any curriculum publisher and provides objective, experienced feedback on curriculum. The Academic Excellence staff have been involved in home education since 1987 and have extensive experience with curriculum providers and the spectrum of homeschooling philosophies.
The resource recommendations from Academic Excellence are strategically selected to strengthen and improve competency and mastery in academic areas presented in standardized testing. These key selected resources make excellent "tutoring aides" and addenda to any curriculum. Our goal in developing the Academic Excellence recommendation service is to provide parents with user friendly, economical resources that strengthen students' academic achievement and testing skills; focus tutoring and teaching efforts; and facilitate preparation for and success in ACT, SAT, and college testing. All recommendations are based upon the student's test scores and our staff's extensive experience with home education. Each of the primary recommendations are provided in correlation to individual students' scores to questions and sections of standardized tests. Secondary resources are often challenging, educational games or less formal learning practices. Each recommendation is measured by ease of use by parents; levels of response, enjoyment, and success by students; and affordability. By targeting and addressing students' deficit areas with easy to use and economical tutorial resources, test scores, grades, and confidence elevate and improve. Recommendations in students' areas of proficiency keep students engaged, challenged, and progressing in all subject areas. We have found this to be an easy, economical way to ensure academic excellence and success.
Ordering Instructions:
◦ Student First Name - Enter the first name of the student to be tested in the space provided.
◦ Student Last Name - Enter the last name of the student to be tested in the space provided.
◦ Grade Level - If you are testing in the middle of school year, select the student's current grade level. If you are testing at the end of school year or between school years, select the next grade level for the student; not the student's past grade level.
◦ Premium Scoring - Now standard on all full tests at no extra charge.
◦ Add Practice CAT - Select if you would like to receive a practice online achievement test for your student.
◦ Recommendation Service - Indicate if you want Curriculum Recommendation Service.
◦ Add to Cart - Enter information for one student only, then select the Add to Cart button.
Once you have placed your California Achievement Test purchase with Academic Excellence, you will receive both an order confirmation and an email containing the user name and password to log into the Academic Excellence education portal. Excellent Tool for Homeschoolers!!
My son and I are extremely happy with the online CAT test! It was quite easy to maneuver through each section and get the scores when he was finished. The test itself was straight forward, with the questions clearly written and understandable. We had originally practiced our "common core" math exam for NYS and the tutor had trouble with some of the questions! We again, were quite pleased with this test. I recommend the online version as it takes the "test anxiety" out of the whole process. Erika on 24th Jun 2015

Convenient testing method
We enjoyed the ease and convenience of the online CAT testing. Ability to take a break when needed then resume is a nice feature. Plenty of time was given and questions seem grade appropriate.
Improvement is needed on the actual grading function. Our test results were missing an entire completed section in math which made the total score lower than it actually was. After a call to customer service,it was determined that the results were forwarded premature due to a "glitch". A corrected score sheet was emailed to us. If I had not checked the results closely it would not have been the correct score in mathematics. I would use this test again but I would double check the results. Sherri on 8th Jun 2015 -
Easy to use!

USER FRIENDLY! LOW STRESS!
My 9th grade son used CAT online for the first time this year. It was super easy to navigate. I was able to just be around in case of problems or questions, otherwise he did it all on his own. He liked being able to choose what order he wanted to take his tests, and watch the grade level go up with each test completed. I think the immediate results made it more fun and challenging. My daughter loved it.
We found the test to be clear with it's directions. Easy to navigate.
The customer service personnel was very helpful and knowledgeable!
We lost Wi-Fi cconnection mid test. Customer service promptly reset that test section for us. We loved how quickly you receive the testing results! We will be using this service next year! Dawn from Ohio on 22nd May 2015 -
Easy to use and amazing customer service
This test is extremely easy to navigate and gives clear instructions. We had a small issue with a portion of the test that we opened (accidentally) but didn't complete. I emailed customer service and they quickly responded and reset that portion of the test for us. They were very nice and helpful. I will be back every year from here on out. Loved It!!
This is my first year homeschooling and I was dreading this moment the whole year. But I am so happy to have found CAT. It was extremely easy to register and set it up for my children. I ordered the test that was not timed, because, why would i want to stress my children out if i don't have too?! One of my daughters although already received high scores in public school, gets a lot of anxiety. I would rather she worry about answering properly then worrying about how many minutes she has left. My other daughter has a tick that makes her constantly crack her knuckles when she is sitting still, so timing her would have just been horrible on her nerves. The girls actually had fun taking it, because you're able to see the scores right after. It gave them the motivation to keep going unto the next subject.....WE LOVED IT!!! Unknown on 14th May 2015

Such an improvement!
I used to have to individually test all my children. It was a big drain on time, and I didn't like to have to leave the little ones alone for that long. Something would always come up when I was supposed to be administering or timing their tests. Now, with the on-line test, I can set one or two kids up on the computer and they just take it from there. This is a huge improvement from testing with the books. My only request would be to have a total math and total English score, because that's what our county requires and I don't like to give them any more information than I have to. Thanks!!! Academic Excellence is a terrific resource
I didn't look into paper testing soon enough to satisfy our state's deadlines. I found Academic Excellence and have been very pleased with the ease of use, prompt results, and customer service. When we mistakenly skipped one section and when our internet disconnected, I found the staff most helpful in resetting those sections for us. I would highly recommend this testing resource. Great way to test!
The online CAT Test from Academic Excellence is the perfect testing solution! I ordered the tests, and when my daughters were ready, I set them in from of the computer and they were done in a relatively short amount of time. The interface is simple to use, so no confusion complicates the testing process. They are walked through the test with sample questions for each section.
